Honey Badgers
November 25, 2022
Tough, clever and sometimes super smelly! Honey badgers are unique creatures, and it’s not without reason there is an Afrikaans expression that goes: “so taai soos ‘n ratel” (which means as tough as a “ratel” .. with ratel referring to a military vehicle used on the battlefield). These animals are known to take on predators much larger than themselves, like lions. They have foul-smelling glands underneath their tails similar to skunks which they use for marking their territory. Their skins are 6 mm thick, which is a lot thicker than most other animals. They’re quite clever and somewhat conniving. Yet for all their bravado, they aren’t spotted easily, and seeing them on safari is always a bonus.
