Juvenile African Elephant
March 18, 2016
This picture of a juvenile African Elephant (Loxodonta Africana) is interesting in that it is a perfect image to try and understand how to age elephants. How old is this specimen?
By our estimate it is between 2 to 3 years old with the main factor in determining this being the size of its small little tusks. It’s hard to imagine that someday, assuming that this juvenile leads a full life, that it could be a 5000 kg animal that has eaten between 2 to 3 million kilograms of food!!!
But it sure is cute…….
