Spitting Cobra

January 26, 2016

Almost every visitor to the Kruger Park knows there are snakes in the habitat but most would rather not see them. The one pictured here is a Mozambique spitting cobra (Naja mossambica) and it is the second most venomous reptile in the area, after the Black mamba. Because we want visitors to be aware that this magnificent animal can be present at any time around Safari Lodges, we highlight this species to encourage you to use a flashlight/torch at night when moving around the camp. Even though it is highly unlikely that you will encounter one, if you do it is the only time you should run and scream loudly! Don’t forget……you’re in the Bushveld.
